Alistair Ross is an Associate Professor in Psychotherapy at the University of Oxford's Department for Continuing Education, affiliated with Kellogg College. His career spans roles as a Baptist minister, psychiatric hospital chaplain, and clinical theologian. He previously directed the Clinical Theology Association and served as Chair of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy’s Professional Ethics and Quality Standards committee. Ross is also a Founding Scholar of the British Psychoanalytic Council and chairs the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association.
His research focuses on intersections between theology, psychoanalysis, and clinical ethics, with a particular emphasis on spirituality in therapy and mental health advocacy. He has contributed to projects such as oral history initiatives and serves on the editorial board of Practical Theology.
Ross’s publications include books on psychodynamic therapy, Freudian analysis, and ethical frameworks in counseling, alongside peer-reviewed articles in journals like British Journal of Guidance & Counselling and Psychoanalytic Perspectives.
He remains active in academic and clinical communities, balancing research, editorial work, and leadership roles in professional organizations.
