Alistair J. Lees is a Professor of Chemistry and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at the State University of New York at Binghamton. He holds a BSc, PhD, and DSc from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, and has held visiting professorships at institutions such as Cambridge University and York University. His research focuses on organometallic photochemistry, particularly transition-metal photophysics and photoreactivity, with applications in anion sensing, photoinitiators, and supramolecular systems. His team has developed sulfite sensors for beverages and explored C-H bond activation in thin films.
Key awards include the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2013-2014) and the University Award for Excellence in Research (2001-2002). His work is funded by the Department of Energy, and he collaborates on projects involving spectroscopic probes and catalytic processes. His research group has produced seminal studies on photoswitchable complexes, luminescent sensors, and self-assembled supramolecular architectures.
