Alissa Haedt-Matt is an Associate Professor and core faculty member in the Clinical Psychology Program at Illinois Institute of Technology’s Lewis College of Science and Letters. She directs the Eating Behaviors Lab and the Clinical Training Program, advising Clinical Psychology PhD students. Her research focuses on affect dysregulation and eating pathology, particularly in underrepresented groups, using methods like ecological momentary assessment. She serves on editorial boards for three eating disorders journals and has received grant funding for her work.
- Education: PhD in Clinical Psychology from University of Iowa (2012), predoctoral internship at University of Chicago Medicine (2011-2012)
- Research Interests: Body image in social media, Purging Disorder classification, and real-time behavioral processes in eating disorders
Her research explores how negative emotions trigger maladaptive eating behaviors and examines eating pathology across diverse populations (e.g., sexual minorities, male athletes, veterans). Recent projects analyze social media data to understand eating disorder treatment dynamics.
Publications span over 30 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Journal of Abnormal Psychology and International Journal of Eating Disorders. She has advised numerous graduate and undergraduate students on research projects.
