Alissa Beath is an Associate Professor and Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences at Macquarie University. She holds roles as Course Director for the Bachelor of Psychology degree (since 2020) and previously led the Bachelor of Psychology (OUA) program (2018–2023). Her expertise spans research methods, statistics, and health psychology, with a focus on curriculum design and educational leadership.
Beath’s research interests include emotion regulation, functional gastrointestinal disorders, and educational psychology. She investigates psychological processes in chronic health conditions and student success factors such as self-efficacy and resilience. She has led projects on gastrointestinal symptom management and online learning engagement.
Her teaching emphasizes accessibility and humor, earning awards like the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence (2021). She serves on committees such as the School of Psychological Sciences Educational Leadership Committee and contributes to journal reviews for Journal of Personality and Individual Differences and Annals of Behavioral Medicine.
Key achievements include the 2023 Senior Fellowship of the Advance Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and multiple teaching awards. She is active in community initiatives like MQ's Ally Network and Academics for Refugees.
