Dr Alison Yeates is a Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences at Ulster University's School of Biomedical Sciences, part of the Faculty of Life & Health Sciences. She holds a PhD from Ulster University (2009) and has over 10 years of postdoctoral research experience in the Nutrition Innovation Centre for Food and Health (NICHE). Her research focuses on maternal and child nutrition, including long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, iodine, and selenium, with a particular emphasis on the Seychelles Child Development Study (SCDS). This work informs public health policies on fish consumption during pregnancy.

Her research interests include micronutrient modulation of the immune system and the role of animal foods in human health. Dr Yeates has received awards such as the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and actively participates in equality initiatives at Ulster University. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education and health sustainability.
Her research outputs include studies on prenatal mercury exposure, telomere length, and the critical role of fish in child development. She has also contributed to policy debates on dietary guidelines to balance nutritional benefits and contaminants in fish consumption.
