Alison Sperling is an Assistant Professor at Florida State University, specializing in 20th and 21st century U.S. literature, ecocriticism, and queer theory. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, an M.A. from San Francisco State University, and a B.A. from the University of Miami.
Her research examines literary and artistic responses to climate change, toxicity, and the Anthropocene, with a focus on science fiction, queer methodologies, and feminist politics. She is completing a manuscript on Weird Modernism and has co-edited special issues on 'Weird Temporalities' and 'Climate Fictions.'
Teaching interests include environmental literature, global modernism, science fiction's engagement with climate change, and gender studies. Her publications explore intersections of ecology, queer theory, and speculative fiction, with recent works analyzing Jeff VanderMeer, Margaret Atwood, and H.P. Lovecraft.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to climate fiction, posthumanism, and decolonial thought. She frequently collaborates on edited volumes and roundtables, emphasizing dialogues between theory and creative practice.
