Alison McGregor is a Professor of Musculoskeletal Biodynamics in the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London, part of the Faculty of Medicine. She leads the Human Performance Group and holds affiliations with the Artificial Intelligence Network, CRUK Convergence Science Centre, Centre for Blast Injury Studies, and multiple rehabilitation-focused networks. Her research focuses on musculoskeletal injury mechanisms, function, and management, with a focus on low back pain and rowing biomechanics. She contributed to the GB Rowing team’s success at the 2012 Olympics and leads initiatives in rehabilitation technology through the Medical Engineering Solutions in Osteoarthritis Centre of Excellence (funded by Wellcome Trust and EPSRC).
Education includes a Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy from King’s College Hospital (1989) and an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Surrey (1992). She oversees undergraduate medical education as Director of Undergraduate Science and leads BSc Medical Biosciences programs.
Research spans biomechanical analysis, AI in healthcare, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Recent work explores knee laxity quantification, AI adoption barriers, and mHealth app development for chronic pain management. She actively collaborates with clinical societies like the Society for Back Pain Research and International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine.
Her grants include Wellcome Trust/EPSRC funding for osteoarthritis rehabilitation and military health initiatives. She advises on prosthetics, orthotics, and injury prevention in high-performance sports.
