Dr. Alison McFarland is a Lecturer in Work Psychology and Human Resource Management Education in the Department of Human Resource Management and Employment Relations at King's Business School, King's College London. She joined as a Teaching Fellow in 2021 and was promoted to Lecturer in 2023. Her academic work bridges organizational psychology and pedagogical innovation in higher education.
Her research focuses on two interconnected areas: the adaptation of psychological people management practices to non-profit and volunteer organizations, and scholarship on teaching effectiveness, digital technologies (including Generative AI), and inclusive education. She is particularly committed to diversifying and decolonizing management curricula, with current work funded by KCL’s Race Equity and Inclusive Education Fund (REIEF).
The recent publications show a strong engagement with experiential learning methods and the psychological dynamics of work, particularly around callings and self-sacrifice. Her work sits at the intersection of psychology, education, and organizational studies, with a clear emphasis on equity and practical application.

Dr. McFarland is actively involved in teaching and supervision, currently accepting new PhD students. She is a Chartered Psychologist and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, underscoring her dual commitment to research and teaching excellence.
