Alison Lullfitz

Alison Lullfitz is a Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia (UWA), based at UWA Albany. She specializes in cross-cultural ecology and conservation biology, focusing on integrating Indigenous ecological knowledge with contemporary conservation practices. Her work emphasizes collaborations with Noongar/Nyungar Elders to apply traditional land management strategies for biodiversity conservation and societal wellbeing.

Education: PhD (2019) from UWA, titled *Vegetation Responses to Noongar Land Management Practices in Old and Young Landscapes of South Western Australia*. Prior to her PhD, she held roles in biodiversity conservation and environmental management across Australia and southern Africa.

Current projects include co-leading the Ecohealth program at the ARC Training Centre for Healing Country, and initiatives such as *Walking Together* (Lotterywest-funded) and *PEAT* (Ian Potter Foundation-funded), which focus on cultural burning, peatland conservation, and Indigenous-led land management. She coordinates the unit *ENVT5310 Biodiversity on Country* with Noongar Elders and Prof. Steve Hopper.

Key contributions include over 12 peer-reviewed publications, grants from the ARC and Ian Potter Foundation, and awards for collaborative research and teaching. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to biodiversity, education, and climate action.

Lullfitz has supervised 14 students since 2019, including PhD candidates and masters students in conservation biology and ethnobotany. Her research spans topics like traditional fire practices, geophyte ecology, and the cultural significance of plants like Nuytsia floribunda.
