Alison Looby, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Wyoming. With a career spanning over a decade, she has held academic positions from Assistant Professor (2011-2016 at University of North Dakota) to Associate Professor (2020-2024) and now Professor (2024-present) at the University of Wyoming. Her research focuses on substance use (prescription stimulants, alcohol, cannabis) among college students, examining cognitive expectancies, preventive interventions, and comorbidity with conditions like ADHD.

Dr. Looby's research in the Addictive Behaviors Lab explores how drug-related beliefs impact usage patterns and how modifying these cognitions can prevent substance use. She has published extensively on topics including cannabis expectancies, alcohol protective strategies, and the interplay between ADHD symptoms and substance consequences. Her recent work examines food and alcohol disturbance (FAD) patterns and psychometric validation of assessment tools.
Teaching contributions include courses on Drugs & Behavior, Psychopathology, and Adult Psychopathology. Dr. Looby currently does not accept graduate students for Fall 2026.
