معرفی
Dr Alison Lansley is a Principal Lecturer in Pharmaceutics at the School of Applied Sciences, University of Brighton. She holds a PhD from the same institution and has previously conducted research at UCLA and King’s College London. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, actively contributing to the Biopharmaceutics (Nasal) Focus Group. Her academic role includes teaching biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the MPharm program.
Her educational background includes a Pharmacy degree and a PhD from the University of Brighton, focusing on preservatives and nasal mucociliary clearance. She furthered her research at UCLA on ciliary activity and calcium signaling, then at King’s College London on airway drug delivery. She returned to academia via a Daphne Jackson Fellowship at the University of Sussex.
Alison's research centers on the biopharmaceutics of inhaled and nasal drug delivery, with a focus on in vitro models of airway epithelium, mucociliary clearance, and mucus barrier effects. She investigates drug absorption using cell lines like 16HBE14o-, SPOC1, and UNCN3T, and studies nanoparticle delivery, toxicology of surfactants and pollutants, and bioavailability in children. Her work bridges pharmaceutical science with environmental health, particularly in assessing the impact of air pollution and water treatment chemicals.
The analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong trend in translational pharmaceutical research, combining advanced in vitro models with real-world applications such as vaccine stability and air pollution toxicity. Her work integrates high-speed imaging, cellular toxicity assays, and biopharmaceutical modeling to optimize drug delivery and assess safety.
- Fellow of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
- Daphne Jackson Fellowship recipient
- University of Brighton Award for Excellence in Facilitating and Empowering Learning (2019)
Alison has supervised 11 PhD students and 5 postdoctoral researchers, securing funding from research councils, charities, and industry. Her current projects include studies on ultrafine particles, water reuse, nasal powders, and mucus effects on drug delivery. She actively mentors students in areas such as drug permeability, toxicity screening, and nanoparticle uptake.
She leads research within the Centre for Environment and Society and the Centre for Lifelong Health at the University of Brighton. Her team utilizes in vitro airway models like MucilAir™ and develops biomimetic systems to study drug absorption and environmental impacts. Collaborations span across toxicology, environmental science, and clinical translation.
