Alison Carberry Gottlieb is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Spanish at Boston University. She serves as the Coordinator of Second Semester Spanish and has held administrative roles including Coordinator of Fourth Semester Spanish (2011-2015), Head of the Spanish Language Program (2015-2019), and LfA Faculty Coach during the pandemic. Her teaching emphasizes language proficiency, real-world communication, and accessibility, equity, and inclusion in education.
- Education: BA in Spanish from Wellesley College (2003), MA and PhD in Hispanic Language and Literature from Boston University (completed by 2011).
Alison’s research focuses on medieval and early modern Iberian studies, particularly feminist analyses of women's roles in historical texts, with attention to intersections of race, class/station, and religion. She advocates for culturally rich, inclusive curricula that challenge systemic inequities and promote global understanding.
Her courses include LS111–LS212, LS307 Spanish through the Horror Genre, LS307 Women Characters in Hispanic Literature, LS308 Women Characters in Spanish Film, and LL690: Language Teaching I. She has been recognized with the LfA Spirit and Creativity Award for her innovative teaching during the pandemic.

Alison is committed to creating diverse, student-centered classrooms and integrates authentic cultural materials into her courses. Outside academia, she enjoys writing fiction, playing video games, and spending time with her son.
