Dr. Alison Banka is a Lecturer in the School of Chemical, Materials & Biomedical Engineering at the University of Georgia since 2022, following her Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. She specializes in teaching upper-level biochemical and biological engineering courses, particularly laboratory modules. Her educational focus includes integrating professional skills development, active learning strategies, and innovative assessment methods into engineering curricula. As faculty advisor to the UGA American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) student chapter, she actively participates in the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and AIChE.
Her research spans biomedical engineering, emphasizing thromboinflammatory mechanisms and nanoparticle-based therapies. Notable work includes studies on platelet-neutrophil aggregates, extracellular matrix biomaterials for vascular repair, and polysalicylic acid microparticles for treating acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Recent contributions explore targeted drug delivery systems and in vitro blood flow models to advance thrombosis treatment strategies.
Dr. Banka’s publications reflect interdisciplinary collaborations at the intersection of engineering and medicine, addressing challenges in hemostasis, inflammation modulation, and regenerative therapies. While currently without listed grants or awards, her work demonstrates strong potential in both pedagogical innovation and translational biomedical research.
