Alisa N. Bokulich is a Professor of Philosophy at Boston University, with affiliations as Associate Member of Harvard University’s History of Science Department and 2021-22 Harvard Radcliffe Fellow. She directs the Center for Philosophy & History of Science (CPHS) at Boston University and leads the Phi-Geo Research Group, focusing on the philosophy of geosciences, physics, and data science.
Her research explores scientific modeling, data interpretation, and uncertainty in the physical and Earth sciences, with recent work on geochronology, mass extinctions, and noncausal explanations. She organizes the Boston Colloquium for Philosophy of Science and contributes to debates on science and values.
Her 15 most recent publications span topics from scale challenges in geosciences to quantum-classical relations, radiometric dating, and typification in scientific models. She has held visiting appointments at Duke University, Durham University, and the University of Edinburgh’s Eidyn Research Centre.
Scientific honors include the Harvard Radcliffe Fellowship and election to the AAAS Section L Steering Committee. She mentors students like Federica Bocchi, who joined the University of Calgary as an Assistant Professor. Her work bridges philosophy, geosciences, and quantum physics, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and ethical implications of scientific practice.
