Prof. Alisa Machner is a Professor of Mineral Construction Materials at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), affiliated with the TUM School of Engineering and Design. She specializes in optimizing the production and application of mineral binders to enhance their economic and ecological efficiency. Her research integrates experimental studies with thermodynamic modeling to investigate hydration mechanisms and durability of sustainable construction materials.
She earned a degree in Geosciences from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), followed by a PhD in 2018 from NTNU Trondheim, Norway. During her PhD, she worked as an industrial researcher at Norcem AS, applying her studies to industrial challenges in composite cement production. She later contributed to the Horizon 2020 project EnDurCrete as a postdoc before joining TUM in 2020.
Her research emphasizes the durability of novel cements under environmental stressors like chloride exposure, carbonation, and leaching. Key contributions include understanding hydrotalcite formation in blended cements and the effects of dolomite/metakaolin additives. Her work bridges academic research with industrial applications, focusing on sustainable materials science.
