معرفی
Dr. Alireza Bagheri Sabbagh is a Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen, where he has been serving since 2015 and was promoted in 2023. He holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield and has previously held academic positions at the University of Warwick and the University of Wolverhampton.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Structural Engineering, University of Sheffield (2007–2011), Thesis: Cold-formed steel elements for earthquake resistant moment frame buildings
- Research Fellow, University of Warwick (2011–2012)
- Lecturer in Structural Engineering, University of Wolverhampton (2013–2015)
Dr. Bagheri Sabbagh's research focuses on sustainable and seismically resilient structural systems, particularly cold-formed steel (CFS) structures with semi-rigid moment-resisting connections infilled with rubberised concrete (RuC). His work integrates experimental testing, finite element modeling, and innovative connection design to enhance energy dissipation and ductility in earthquake-prone regions. He investigates failure mechanisms such as beam local buckling, side plate plasticity, and screw shear, aiming to improve connection rigidity and performance under cyclic loading.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend in advancing CFS connection technologies, with a focus on reusability, composite behavior, and sustainable materials. The research consistently targets seismic applications, emphasizing hysteretic behavior, energy dissipation, and classification under Eurocode standards.
He is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (CEng MIStructE) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research has been supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering Frontiers of Development Seed Funding.
As a supervisor and project lead, he has guided MSc students and collaborated on funded research initiatives. He actively contributes to the academic community through peer-reviewed journals such as Engineering Structures, Thin-Walled Structures, and Structures.
Dr. Bagheri Sabbagh leads experimental work in structural laboratories at the University of Aberdeen, utilizing advanced instrumentation including strain gauges and displacement transducers to assess connection behavior under cyclic loading. His team focuses on validating numerical models and extending the applicability of CFS-RuC systems in multi-storey construction.
