Prof. Aline Klingenberg is a Professor of IT Law and Educational Innovation in Data Sharing and Communication Law at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Law. She coordinates the IT Law bachelor's and master's programs, teaching courses on privacy, data protection, and communication law. Her research focuses on digital governance, administrative law, and privacy regulation.
Education: Studied Dutch Law at the University of Groningen (1989–1994), worked at Leeuwarden Municipality (1994–2001), and earned her Ph.D. in 2011 on electronic government communication. She has held roles as Honorary Deputy Judge at the Regional Court of Northern Netherlands since 2015, and chairs the Stichting WAMS (When Art Meets Science).
Research Interests: Explores intersections of technology and law, emphasizing data ethics, GDPR compliance, and administrative obligations in digital contexts. Recent work addresses data governance, privacy rights, and public-sector accountability in digital transformation.
Professional Activities: Editorial board member for Jurisprudentie Bescherming Persoonsgegevens, frequent commentator on data privacy issues, and contributor to legal education initiatives.
