Dr Alina Khakoo is an Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of History of Art at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on art and activism in postwar Britain, particularly the role of infrastructures like independent magazines, archives, and galleries in worldmaking by anti-racist and feminist movements. She is completing a PhD thesis (2024) and co-authoring a forthcoming book on British South Asian artists (Tate Publishing, 2025). She co-leads the Radical Cambridge research group (Cambridge/St Andrews), exploring contemporary art’s politics of space.
Her work bridges academia and curatorial practice: at Kettle’s Yard (2019–22), she curated archival exhibitions reframing the museum as a global modernist institution, including retrospectives of Linder and Sutapa Biswas. She contributed to cataloguing the Panchayat Special Collection at Tate Library, an artist-led Third Worldist archive. Her research emphasizes decolonial methodologies, transnational art networks, and the intersection of art with postcolonial and feminist theory.
Labs/teams: Radical Cambridge (Cambridge/St Andrews), part of transnational art history collaborations.
