Alicia Avilés-Quiñones is Associate Teaching Professor of Spanish at the University of Missouri. Her research examines 20th-century Latin American literature, focusing on cultural politics during revolutionary periods and the intersection of art, ethics, and political engagement.
Specializing in Cuban literary culture, Avilés-Quiñones analyzes how historical upheavals reshape literary canons and intellectual discourse. Her teaching includes advanced seminars on Caribbean identity, Latin American urban narratives, and Jorge Luis Borges.
She holds a Ph.D. from Tulane University and master's degrees in Spanish and Medieval History from the University of Notre Dame. Her pedagogical approach connects literary analysis with historical context and sociopolitical dynamics.
