Alice P. Villatoro is an Assistant Professor of Public Health at Santa Clara University's College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from UCLA and completed postdoctoral training at Columbia University. Her research examines mental health disparities, stigma, and health equity in Latinx communities through interdisciplinary approaches blending psychiatric epidemiology, health services, and medical sociology.
Current projects include the Latinx Mental Illness Stigma Narratives Study (exploring stigma across U.S. regions) and investigations into perinatal mental health needs in Silicon Valley's Latinx population. Her work emphasizes sociocultural determinants of health and has been recognized by the National Center for Institutional Diversity and AcademyHealth/Aetna Foundation. Recent publications analyze media's role in mental health perceptions, help-seeking behaviors in Latinx populations, and COVID-19's impact on young adults.
