Alice Shiner is an Honorary Senior Lecturer and Associate Tutor at Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, where she is also a member of the Health Services and Primary Care research group. She holds a dual role combining academic work with clinical practice as a General Practitioner at Lawson Road Surgery, working three clinical sessions per week. Her career integrates primary care, medical education, and applied health research, with a strong focus on patient-centred approaches and qualitative methodologies.

Her research interests center on patient-centred care in primary care, particularly for patients with multimorbidity. She has a strong background in medical education, having served as Junior and Deputy Editor of the RCGP journal InnovAiT, and continues to contribute to curriculum development and trainee assessment.
The most recent articles highlight a consistent focus on qualitative and mixed-methods research in primary care. Themes include negotiation of goal-setting in consultations, resilience in female GPs, and innovative educational tools like MOOCs for GP development. Her work frequently employs qualitative analysis of interviews and consultations, often in international or multi-site contexts.

Alice Shiner has been actively involved in research funding and projects, including roles as a GP Research Fellow under the CLAHRC East of England program and contributions to NIHR-funded trials such as the ‘Goal Plan’ study. She is also a key collaborator in the Wonca Working Party on Women in Family Medicine, leading international research on gender and professional resilience.
