Alice S. Powers

Alice S. Powers is a Research Professor in Integrative Neuroscience at Stony Brook University. Her comparative research program investigates brain evolution across species, examining neurobiological mechanisms of learning, memory, and motor control in reptilian models.

Current projects investigate adult neurogenesis in turtles (Chrysemys picta) and the role of acetylcholine in attention mechanisms. Research combines behavioral observation with neuroanatomical analysis to understand evolutionary conservation of cognitive processes.

Recent publications explore environmental influences on neural plasticity, evolutionary patterns in brain organization, and neurotransmitter functions in reptilian attention systems.
