Howard Gritton is an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and Comparative Biosciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the College of Veterinary Medicine. His research focuses on neuromodulation mechanisms underlying learning, memory, and neuropsychiatric disorders, particularly investigating how neurotransmitters like acetylcholine, dopamine, and norepinephrine coordinate brain activity. He leads the Gritton Lab, which explores oscillatory activity in cognitive function and excitatory/inhibitory balance in neural circuits.
- Affiliations: College of Veterinary Medicine, Grainger College of Engineering (Bioengineering connection via faculty listing)
- Research Themes: Sensory processing, attention, neuropsychiatric disease mechanisms, and experience-dependent synaptic plasticity
His work has received NIH funding to study autism-related sensory hypersensitivity. The lab is located at 3636 VMBSB, 2001 S. Lincoln Avenue, Urbana, IL.
