Alice Mandell serves as Assistant Professor and William Foxwell Albright Chair in Biblical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at Johns Hopkins University. She earned her Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Northwest Semitics from UCLA's Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures.
Her research focuses on the intersection of Canaanite scribal practices and cuneiform culture during the Amarna Age, with particular attention to ancient Near Eastern writing systems and biblical textual traditions. Mandell's work bridges archaeological evidence with linguistic analysis of Northwest Semitic languages.
Mandell is currently completing her first book Canaanite Scribal Creativity and the Making of Cuneiform Culture in the Amarna Age, forthcoming from Routledge. Her scholarship contributes to understanding cultural exchange in ancient Near Eastern writing traditions.
