Dr. Alice Chuah is an Associate Professor at the School of Pharmacy, Monash University Malaysia. She specializes in pharmaceutical sciences with a focus on advanced drug delivery systems. Her work integrates nanotechnology, materials science, and pharmaceutics to improve drug efficacy while minimizing side effects. She leads the Wound and Dermal Delivery Focus Group in Malaysia's Controlled Release Society. Dr. Chuah holds a PhD in Pharmacy from Universiti Nottingham Malaysia and a Master of Pharmacy from the University of Strathclyde.
- Education:
- Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (GCHE), Monash University Malaysia
- Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy, Universiti Nottingham Malaysia
- Master of Pharmacy, University of Strathclyde
Her research emphasizes nanoparticle systems, hydrogels, and polymeric membranes for drug delivery, addressing challenges like poor drug solubility and non-specific distribution. She has expanded into sustainable water filtration membranes for underserved rural areas. Notable recognitions include the APEC–Australia Women in Research Fellowship and the MAKNA Cancer Research Award. Dr. Chuah actively supervises PhD students and leads multiple research projects focused on chemoresistance mechanisms, QSAR-guided drug design, and clinical trials for wound healing products.
Recent projects include developing tocotrienol-based wound dressings and investigating tumor gene interactions in breast cancer. Collaborations span Malaysia and international institutions. Her publications (52+ articles) emphasize drug delivery innovations and nanomedicine applications. She promotes public engagement through initiatives like the ASEAN Sustainable Development Grant Scheme and media features on drug formulation advancements.
