Alia Al-Khatib is a Clinical Supervisor and Lecturer at the Penn Carey Law School's Civil Practice Clinic, where she teaches and supervises students representing low-income clients in civil litigation. She holds a Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law, graduating with honors, and clerked for Judge Hilda G. Tagle in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Her professional experience includes roles at Katz Banks Kumin (Senior Associate, employment discrimination cases), Justice at Work (staff attorney, wage theft and immigrant rights litigation), and the Southern Poverty Law Center (law fellow, criminal justice reform and racial justice advocacy). She has also engaged in policy work, including representing clients before Congressional committees on pandemic preparedness, cybersecurity, and workplace harassment.
Alia’s research and advocacy focus on advancing justice for marginalized communities, particularly in employment law, immigrant rights, and criminal justice reform. Her awards include the Dean’s Award for Professional Responsibility for her work in the Immigrant Justice Clinic.
