Dr. Ali Mashayek is an Associate Professor of Climate Sciences at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge, and a Physics Fellow at Peterhouse. He received his PhD in Physics from the University of Toronto in 2013 and has held positions at Imperial College London, University of Oxford, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and MIT.
- Current Role: Associate Professor of Climate Sciences
- Affiliation: Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge
- Fellowship: Peterhouse Physics Fellow
His research focuses on the physics and biochemistry of the climate system, with emphasis on climate change, global heat and carbon budgets, and turbulent mixing in the Southern Ocean. Key themes include diapycnal mixing, Antarctic bottom water dynamics, and the role of small-scale turbulence in large-scale climate processes.
Recent publications highlight interdisciplinary trends in climate science, oceanography, and biogeochemistry, particularly on Southern Ocean dynamics, carbon fluxes, and turbulence-driven mixing. Studies also address the impact of ocean topography, Prandtl number effects, and seasonal variability in Antarctic ice shelf interactions.
- Physics Fellow at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge (Elected 2023)
