Ali Hooshyar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, joining in 2018. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department, York University, Toronto, from 2015 to 2018, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Centre for Applied Power Electronics at the University of Toronto in 2015.
His research focuses on the protection and control of renewable energy systems and smart grids, addressing challenges in grid resilience, stability, and integration of sustainable energy technologies. This work spans power systems engineering, control theory, and energy infrastructure modernization.

Dr. Hooshyar contributes to academic leadership as an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, and as an Associate Editor for the Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He also served as Guest Editor-in-Chief for a special issue on Resilience-Oriented Protection, Control, and Monitoring Systems for Power Grids in the IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery.
