Ali Emadi is a Professor in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical & Computer Engineering at McMaster University, and a Canada Excellence Research Chair Laureate. He holds the NSERC/FCA Industrial Research Chair in Electrified Powertrains and Tier I Canada Research Chair in Transportation Electrification and Smart Mobility. His research focuses on electrified vehicles, power electronics, electric machines, and sustainable energy systems. Emadi leads the McMaster Engineering EcoCAR Mobility Challenge team and has supervised over 60 Ph.D. and 80 Master's students. He founded Enedym Inc. and MenloLab Inc., and his work has been recognized with numerous awards, including IEEE Fellow and SAE Fellow.
Education: BS (Sharif University, 1995), MS (Sharif University, 1997), PhD (Texas A&M, 2000).
Research Interests: Transportation electrification, autonomous vehicles, electric powertrains, renewable energy systems, and smart mobility. His lab develops advanced technologies like magnet-free electric motors and thermal management systems, emphasizing sustainability and efficiency.
Key Achievements: Over 650 publications, 70 patents, and $150M in research funding. He has pioneered IEEE conferences like ITEC and served as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification.
Labs/Teams: Directs the McMaster Automotive Resource Center (MARC) and MacAUTO institute. Collaborates with industries like GM, Tesla, and Toyota.
