Dr Ali Baker is an Associate Professor in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Flinders University and a Full Member of the Assemblage Centre for Creative Practice Research. Their work centers on Indigenous Australian knowledge systems, sovereignty, and decolonizing methodologies across artistic and academic domains.

Research Interests:
Baker's scholarship critically engages with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cinema and Media Studies, Indigenous artistic practice, and colonial archive repatriation. Their work examines intergenerational knowledge transmission through performance, the politics of memory, and decolonizing institutional frameworks. Current projects explore Indigenous environmental epistemologies and resistance to racist textual legacies.
Publication Trends:
Over 35 research outputs (2006-2025) reveal evolving focus from foundational Indigenous studies (2006-2015) toward contemporary environmental humanities and performance-based sovereignty assertions. Recent works (2021-2025) emphasize collaborative Unbound Collective projects addressing racist text legacies, river knowledge, and embodied resistance, demonstrating consistent engagement with SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

Professional Engagement:
Baker serves on the Adelaide City Council Public Art Round Table, Artlink Magazine Board, and SALA Advisory Committee while contributing to the Department for Correctional Services' Creative Industries Steering Group. Their teaching includes Topic Coordination of INDG3002 Decolonising Institutions and INDG2001 Black Poetics, alongside lecturing in Indigenous Research Methodologies and Environmental Management.

As core member of the Unbound Collective, Baker co-creates performance-exhibitions like Sovereign Acts series that challenge colonial narratives. Through the Assemblage Centre for Creative Practice Research, they develop interdisciplinary projects bridging Indigenous knowledge systems with contemporary artistic practice, emphasizing community-led repatriation and environmental stewardship.
