Dr. Yücel's research centers on the psychological dimensions of film narrative, particularly alienation theory applied to short films and the cognitive impact of spatio-temporal techniques. His work bridges Erich Fromm's critical theory with practical cinematography, examining how virtual reality disrupts traditional storytelling frameworks. He investigates immersion mechanisms through technical elements like lighting continuity and non-linear editing.
His publications reveal a trajectory from classical film analysis toward emerging media, with recent work exploring virtual reality's capacity to transcend cinematic realism. This evolution reflects broader shifts in media studies toward interactive and immersive formats while maintaining philosophical rigor in narrative interpretation.
Scientific Awards:
- Special Jury Prize (Professional Associations, Türkiye, 2015)
- Third Prize (Professional Associations, Türkiye, 2007)
- Mention (Professional Associations, Türkiye, 2002)
- Special Jury Prize (Professional Associations, Türkiye, 1999)
Dr. Yücel has supervised nine Master's theses on diverse projects including documentary filmmaking, experimental cinema, and cultural heritage documentation. His administrative contributions extend beyond departmental leadership to curating university art exhibitions and organizing film screenings. Professional experience includes special effects work at Gripalleffect (2005-2007), informing his technical teaching approach.
His artistic practice intersects with academia through international film festival participations (Kalakari Film Festival, Iran FICTS Festival) and photography exhibitions like 'Night Impressions' at Maltepe University. Collaborative projects with institutions like Tbilisi State Academy of Arts demonstrate transnational engagement in media arts education.
