Dr. Ali Aldahesh is a Lecturer in Arabic Language, Literature, and Culture at the University of Sydney's Department of Arabic Language and Cultures (School of Languages and Cultures, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences). He joined the university in 2011 after teaching at the Australian National University's Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies. His academic qualifications include a PhD in Translation and Linguistics, an MA in Translation and Linguistics, and an MA in Semitic Studies.
Dr. Aldahesh's research focuses on Qur’anic translation, contrastive linguistics, and Arabic language studies. Notable works include The (Un)Translatability of Qur’anic Idiomatic Phrasal Verbs (Routledge, 2022), which explores challenges in translating Qur’anic idioms, and studies on phrasal verbs in Arabic and English. His current project examines the translation of Qur’anic surah names into English using corpus-based methods.
