Ali Al-Khattawi

Ali Al-Khattawi is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutics at the Aston Pharmacy School, part of the College of Health and Life Sciences at Aston University. His academic journey includes postdoctoral roles at the University of Leeds and Aston University, followed by a Lecturer position at De Montfort University before returning to Aston in 2016.

His research focuses on pharmaceutical particle design and fabrication strategies, particularly spray drying for solubility enhancement, control of particle structure, and meso/macro-porous carriers for drug delivery. He applies these techniques to precision manufacturing and industrial technical solutions.

Notable awards include the IPEC Research Excellence Award (2013) and the RSC Process Technology Group Award (2011). He has published extensively in journals like European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics and Molecular Pharmaceutics, with recent work on stearic acid-capped mesoporous silica and burst release kinetics of PLGA microspheres.

He teaches modules such as Formulation III (PH3603) and leads the Parenterals Theme, alongside Medicines Optimisation through Formulation (PH2503).
