Prof. Dr. Ali Ahmad Naz is a Professor of Plant Breeding at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, leading research in sustainable crop improvement. He holds a PhD and Habilitation from the University of Bonn, with extensive experience in plant genetics and breeding. His work focuses on utilizing genetic diversity to enhance drought tolerance and stress adaptation in cereal crops. Key research areas include root system architecture, proline biosynthesis, and CRISPR-Cas9 applications.
Education: Habilitation (2015, University of Bonn), PhD (2006, University of Bonn), M.Sc. (2002, University of Agriculture Faisalabad), B.Sc. (2000, University of Agriculture Faisalabad). His research integrates molecular genetics, phenomics, and genomics to explore crop wild relatives for climate-resilient traits. Recent studies highlight the role of P5CS1 gene variants in drought adaptation and yield sustainability in barley.
Research interests include genetic resource utilization, abiotic stress biology, and precision breeding tools. He has led projects on root traits in tomato and wheat, and collaborates with institutions globally. His teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches in plant breeding, combining classical methods with modern biotechnology.
Publications span over 50 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on QTL mapping, transcriptomics, and genetic dissection of stress responses. He serves on editorial boards and reviews for high-impact journals in plant science.
