Alfredo Puing

Dr. Alfredo Puing is an Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, specializing in Infectious Diseases with a focus on immunocompromised patients. He earned his MD from Universidad Central del Ecuador and completed residency at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, followed by Infectious Diseases fellowships at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Stanford University. Before Yale, he served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at City of Hope National Medical Center.

His clinical and research expertise centers on managing infections in immunocompromised populations, including transplant recipients, cancer patients, and those with HIV. Key research areas include antiviral therapies for SARS-CoV-2 in vulnerable groups, vaccine development for immunocompromised patients, and improving outcomes for HIV-positive leukemia patients.

Dr. Puing has published extensively on topics such as fungal infections in myeloma patients, HIV remission via allogeneic transplants, and monoclonal antibody efficacy in cancer patients with COVID-19. His work bridges clinical practice and translational research, addressing critical gaps in managing infectious complications among high-risk populations.
