Alfred Thomas is a Professor of English at the University of Illinois Chicago, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His research explores transnational cultural connections in late-medieval and early modern periods, particularly focusing on English-Bohemian exchanges and the role of Anne of Bohemia in shaping writers like Chaucer. He also investigates Cold War-era Shakespeare reception in Eastern Europe.
Teaching emphasizes comparative approaches, including courses on Shakespeare through global cinema and medieval masculinity studies linked to his book project Monstrous Mirror. Research areas span comparative literature, gender studies, and medieval/early modern British and European literature.
