Alfonso Valero Valenzuela is a Professor at the University of Murcia's Faculty of Sports Sciences, Department of Physical Activity and Sport. He holds a PhD from the University of Granada (2002) and leads the SAFE research group, focusing on teaching methodologies, personal/social responsibility models, and health promotion in education. His work includes 10 completed doctoral theses, 65+ JCR articles, and €500k+ in grants. He is a member of the European Network for Studies in Sports Sciences (EN3S) and coordinates the international network RIPIAFE for equality and physical activity promotion.
Research highlights include pioneering studies on the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model, linking it with Self-Determination Theory. He has developed interdisciplinary programs like ACTIVE VALUES and collaborated internationally at institutions such as Loughborough University and Georgia State University. Leadership roles include directing the SAFE group since 2015, managing European projects like 'Esports and Social Inclusion,' and coordinating master’s programs in active methodologies.
His work emphasizes improving teacher efficacy, fostering healthy habits, and reducing school violence through pedagogical innovation. Notable contributions include the ECVA-12 scale for evaluating educational values and the Seneb’s Enigma study, integrating gamification and TPSR. He has also conducted impactful clinical studies on heart failure management and pandemic-era educational adaptations.
