Alfie Gaffney is an Associate Tutor in the School of Environmental Sciences within the Faculty of Science at the University of East Anglia. He is also a member of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and the Environmental Social Sciences research group. His research focuses on the role of local politicians in achieving net-zero goals and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and sustainable development.
Education:
- Master of Science in Global Environment, Politics and Society, University of Edinburgh (2018–2019)
- Bachelor of Arts in Geography, University of Exeter (2015–2018)
His research interests span climate policy, environmental governance, urban studies, and the intersection of technology with environmental issues. Recent work includes analyzing UK climate policy frameworks and critiquing digital technologies like Google Street View through an urban and environmental lens.
Research Collaborations: Alfie has engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations on global environmental agreements, sustainable supply chains, and biodiversity conservation, particularly through CITES evaluations.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and the Science, Society and Sustainability initiative, focusing on bridging academic and policy domains.
