Alexis Khursigara is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Montclair State University, part of the College of Science and Mathematics. She holds a Ph.D. in Marine Science from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. in Secondary Education Biology from Fairfield University, and a B.Sc. in Biology from Fairfield University. Prior to this role, she served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of North Texas (2020-2023).
Her research focuses on two primary streams: (1) investigating how environmental conditions (e.g., UV radiation, temperature, hypoxia, salinity) and climate change stressors impact the physiology and behavior of aquatic organisms, and (2) studying the effects of environmental contaminants like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on fish survival, development, and behavior. She works with diverse fish and invertebrate species to understand ecological and physiological responses to environmental changes.
Dr. Khursigara’s work bridges ecotoxicology and ecophysiology, emphasizing the dynamic nature of aquatic ecosystems and their vulnerability to anthropogenic stressors. No specific grants, awards, or advising records are listed in the provided profile.
