Alexis F. Vasseur is the John T. Stuart III Centennial Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has been a faculty member since 2003, progressing from Assistant to Full Professor. He is also an Affiliated Faculty member of the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) at UT Austin. Prior to joining UT Austin, he held positions at the University of Oxford (2010-2011) and was a permanent researcher at CNRS in France (1999-2003). In 2016, he was elected Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
Professor Vasseur's research focuses on the mathematical analysis of Partial Differential Equations with applications to Fluid Mechanics. His work spans Navier-Stokes equations, hyperbolic conservation laws, non-local operators, kinetic equations, and hydrodynamic limits. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of shock wave stability, boundary layer analysis, regularity theory, and vanishing viscosity limits.
His recent publications (2020-2023) demonstrate continued productivity and impact in the field, with papers in top journals including Inventiones Mathematicae and Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis. His work shows a consistent focus on stability analysis, regularity theory, and mathematical aspects of fluid dynamics, with increasing attention to kinetic equations and their connections to fluid models.

Professor Vasseur maintains an active research group with current funding from multiple NSF grants, including an NSF-EPSRC Collaborative Research award (2022-2025) and an NSF-RTG grant as Co-PI (2019-2024). He has successfully mentored 9 PhD students to completion, with several now holding faculty positions internationally. His research group focuses on advanced topics in PDE theory with applications to fluid mechanics, providing students with opportunities for international collaboration and publication in top mathematics journals.
Professor Vasseur maintains a productive research program with strong connections to the international mathematics community, regularly participating in conferences and workshops worldwide and collaborating with researchers across Europe, Asia, and North America.
