Alexis C. Edwards

Alexis C. Edwards, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics (VIPBG) at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her research program investigates the etiology of substance use disorders, suicidal behavior, and internalizing problems, examining how genetic factors, psychological characteristics, and environmental exposures contribute to these outcomes.

Dr. Edwards employs diverse methodological approaches including genome-wide association studies, developmental models, and twin-family designs. Her work aims to identify modifiable risk factors to reduce suffering associated with mental health disorders through translational research that informs treatment and prevention strategies.
