Dr. Lochmatow's research centers on Modern History, History of Science and Scholarship, and History of Intelligence Research. His current project, 'The Bodies of Intelligences and their Environments,' investigates how social and political entities function as 'bodies' of intelligence across historical contexts. Drawing on German, Polish, Yiddish, and Hebrew sources from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, his work crosses established historiographical boundaries to examine the relationship between intellectual frameworks and political systems.
His publication record reveals consistent engagement with the history of knowledge in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly analyzing how scholarly communities maintained intellectual integrity amid political pressures. His research demonstrates how academic virtues served as both battlegrounds and unifying factors among scholars during the Cold War period.
