Alexei Kisselev is a Professor in the Department of Drug Discovery and Development at Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy since 2023. He is also a Scientist at the Experimental Therapeutics Program, O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center (University of Alabama at Birmingham) since 2020. Previously, he was an Associate Professor at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth (2011-17) and held research roles at Harvard Medical School and Norris Cotton Cancer Center.
- Education: M.Sc. in Chemistry (1991), Ph.D. (1995) from Moscow State University.
Research Interests: Targeting the proteasome for cancer therapy, focusing on site-specific inhibitors, mechanisms of tumor cell sensitivity, and nanoparticle formulations to overcome drug limitations. His work explores immunoproteasome inhibition in hematologic malignancies and proteasome recovery pathways involving Nrf1.
Publications highlight advancements in proteasome inhibitor design, drug synergy, and applications in multiple myeloma, triple-negative breast cancer, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Collaborations include nanoparticle development with Dr. Arnold and studies on immunoproteasome ratios in cancer cells.
Current Funding: Principal Investigator on NCI R01 CA213223 (2017-23) investigating proteasome inhibitors for solid tumors with a total cost of $1,805,000.
Laboratory: Collaborates with Dr. Arnold on liposomal formulations, involves graduate students Olasubomi Akintola, Ibtisam, Tyler Jenkins, Sriraja Srinivasa, and Research Assistant Mitchell Patterson. Research spans proteasome biology, cancer drug development, and overcoming toxicities in pediatric treatments.
