Alexandre de Streel serves as Visiting Professor in the European Legal Studies Department at the College of Europe (Bruges Campus), while also holding positions as Professor of European Law at the University of Namur and Visiting Professor at SciencesPo Paris.
His research expertise focuses on the regulation and application of competition policy in digital markets, with particular emphasis on telecommunications infrastructure, platform economies, and data governance frameworks. He investigates the complex legal challenges emerging from artificial intelligence development and provides regulatory guidance to the European Union and international organizations on digital policy matters.
Professor de Streel directs the digital research programme at the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE) in Brussels and serves on the decision panel of the Belgian Competition Authority. His international influence extends through scientific committee memberships at the Knight-Georgetown Institute (US), the European University Institute-Centre for a Digital Society (Italy), and the Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation (Germany).
Prior academic appointments include visiting positions at New York University Law School, European University Institute in Florence, Panthéon-Assas (Singapore campus), Barcelona Graduate School of Economics, and the University of Louvain. His policy experience encompasses roles with the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister's office, the Belgian Permanent Representation to the European Union, and the European Commission, where he chaired the expert group on the online platform economy.
