Prof. Alexandre Roulin is a Full Professor at the Department of Ecology and Evolution within the Faculty of Biology and Medicine at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, a position he has held since 2016 after serving as Associate Professor from 2004-2008.
His academic qualifications include:
- Ph.D. in Biology (1997-1999) from the University of Bern under Prof. Heinz Richner
- Master of Science (1996-1997) from the University of Bern
- Bachelor's studies in Biology with Zoology specialization (1993-1996) at the University of Bern
Roulin's research centers on evolutionary mechanisms in animal behavior, with particular emphasis on sexual/natural selection dynamics, host-parasite coevolution, and family conflict systems. His work integrates field ornithology with experimental approaches to examine how ecological pressures shape behavioral adaptations across generations, especially in avian model systems where social structures and reproductive strategies provide rich evolutionary insights.
He leads an active research group at UNIL investigating population-level consequences of behavioral traits, with recent work expanding into quantitative analyses of evolutionary dynamics in changing environments.
