Alexandre Bureau is a Professor at Université Laval and Researcher at the CERVO Brain Research Centre in Québec, Canada. His laboratory focuses on developing statistical methods for identifying genetic causes of complex psychiatric disorders through familial genetic analysis and multidimensional data approaches.
Research interests span:
- Development of statistical genetics methods for complex disease etiology
- Analysis of whole-genome data in psychiatric disorders
- Identification of rare genetic variations in bipolar disorder and schizophrenia
- Multidimensional phenotype analysis incorporating environmental factors
- Applications to fetal growth, facial deformities, and suicide genetics
Recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate methodological innovations in rare variant analysis, family-based study designs, and polygenic risk modeling, predominantly applied to psychiatric genetics with expanding applications to neurodevelopmental biomarkers and bone disorders.
Honors include:
- Neel Award nomination (2002) for work on SNP-phenotype prediction using Random Forests
Currently advises:
- 4 graduate students (2 PhD, 2 MSc) in biostatistics
Leads a computational genetics team at CERVO Brain Research Centre developing novel statistical frameworks for familial genetic studies.
