معرفی
Prof. Alexandre Brolo is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Victoria (UVic), Canada. He holds a PhD from the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on surface processes, spectroscopic methods (particularly Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy/SERS), metallic nanostructures, and applications in electrochemistry, biosensors, and single-molecule detection. Brolo teaches courses in analytical and physical chemistry, emphasizing instrumental analysis, electrochemistry, and spectroscopy.
Research interests include developing SERS-based biosensors for disease detection (e.g., Zika virus, cancer biomarkers), studying radiation-induced metabolic changes in tumors via Raman spectroscopy and machine learning, and advancing plasmonic nanostructures for photonic applications. His group collaborates on ex vivo circulating tumor cell detection, light-trapping photovoltaics, and nanomaterial synthesis.
Key facilities include the FIPS (Functional Interfacial and Plasmonic Systems) Labs managed by Dr. Michele de Souza. Brolo’s work bridges analytical chemistry, nanotechnology, and biomedical applications, with a focus on translating fundamental discoveries into practical diagnostic and energy solutions. His contributions span over 150 publications, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to surface science and nanotechnology.
