Dr. Alexandra Starr is a Research Associate at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, with affiliations in Biological Psychology, LEARN!, APH - Mental Health, and APH - Personalized Medicine. Her research focuses on developmental psychology, behavioral genetics, and educational outcomes, particularly exploring the interplay between genetic factors, home environments, and school performance. She has contributed to the German TwinLife Study, investigating genetic and social origins of educational predictors. Starr teaches Behaviour Genetics in Psychology and has published extensively on topics like school grades' predictive validity, cognitive stimulation causality, and home chaos effects.
Her work combines longitudinal analyses, twin studies, and biometric models to understand how environmental and genetic factors shape educational trajectories. Key themes include cognitive development, conscientiousness interactions, and the role of household chaos in academic achievement. Recent findings highlight the importance of both direct and indirect genetic effects on educational outcomes across ages and countries.
Starr collaborates widely, contributing to open-access datasets like the TwinLife Study. Her research bridges psychological theory with practical insights into optimizing educational systems through a deeper understanding of developmental dynamics.
