Dr. Alexandra Kutnick serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Clinical Psychology Department at The Chicago School's Chicago campus. A Licensed Clinical Psychologist, she founded Morningside Counseling and Assessment specializing in complex trauma, substance abuse, serious illness, and life transitions including stepparenting and divorce.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. from New York University (2017)
- M.A. from Columbia University (2001)
- B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania (1999)
Her research examines intersections of trauma, addiction, mental illness, and socioeconomic factors in health adaptation, with emphasis on medical mistrust and stepfamily dynamics. She advances trauma-informed care approaches for vulnerable populations facing co-occurring challenges through clinical practice and academic instruction.
Professional recognition includes:
- NIDA-funded Postdoctoral Fellowship in Substance Abuse Research
At TCS, she teaches Substance Use Disorders, Trauma Theory, Lifespan Development, and Psychopathology while mentoring students and serving as dissertation reader. Previously, she spent seven years as Research Scientist and Clinical Supervisor at NYU's Center for Drug Use and HIV Research conducting behavioral interventions for HIV patients.
She founded Morningside Counseling and Assessment and maintains clinical ties with the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture where she received advanced trauma training.
