Alexandra Kaiser is a Researcher at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) Institute of Political Science, currently working on the BMBF project 'Academic Freedom in the People’s Republic of China'. Previously, she served as a research associate at the University of Cologne's Chair of Chinese Law and conducted Taiwan Foundation for Democracy-funded research on China-Interpol relations.
Her academic foundation includes a PhD in Regional Studies China/Law from the University of Cologne (2021), with doctoral research examining how China's 'national conditions' human rights discourse impacts presumption of innocence in criminal justice. Educational experiences span Tamkang University (Taipei), China University of Political Science and Law (Beijing), Nanjing University, Central South University's Human Rights Institute (Changsha), and King's College London.
Dr. Kaiser's research integrates human rights theory with Chinese legal practice, emphasizing fair trial standards and transnational legal cooperation. Her work demonstrates deep regional expertise through sustained fieldwork across Greater China and collaboration with international institutions.
Current research trajectories focus on academic freedom constraints in China and Interpol's role in cross-border extradition mechanisms, reflecting her dual specialization in domestic Chinese law and international legal frameworks.
She has secured research funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, supporting projects at the intersection of human rights and political science.
